Located in the heart of Redding, CT, Peaceable Barn Studio was founded by Leslie Cohen-Rubury with the vision to create a community space and to introduce contact improvisation to the surrounding community. Built in 1998, the barn’s construction brought together master builders, family members, and dancers from near and far, all coming together in the spirit of improvisation… a spirit so inspiring that the first workshop preceded the completion of the floor! In addition to contact improvisation weekly classes and small, intimate weekend intensives, the studio has been home to a variety of events including monthly music and dance jams, day-long yoga workshops, kirtan chanting, community sings, musical concerts and much more. The radiant-heated floor, made of hard wood maple, is truly the heart and soul of the studio–better known as the Butter Barn due to the floor’s satiny finish.
